AtlasCare Presents the MS Society Golf Tournament
AtlasCare is proud to support the Mississauga Chapter of the MS Society of Canada as Presenting Sponsor of this year’s charity golf tournament on Monday, September 26th at the Royal Ontario Golf Club.
The Grochmal family has personally felt the difficulties, challenges, and heartache of Multiple Sclerosis. Roger Grochmal’s wife, Kathy, passed away in 2003 at the young age of 53 after a 34-year battle with MS. Roger’s son, Mike, is reliving his mother’s battle through his mother-in-law, who has been fighting MS for over 30 years.
The Grochmal’s personal connection and experience with this disease has led to their sponsorship of this year’s golf tournament. The Mississauga Chapter played an instrumental role in Kathy’s care during the last years of her life. The Grochmals and AtlasCare are reaching out to their partners and valued customers for help.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, complex, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, or CNS (the brain and spinal cord). While the exact cause of MS is not known, current research increasingly points to a complex interplay of environmental and possibly genetic risk factors. MS occurs more often in countries like Canada, which are further away from the equator.
It is estimated that 55,000-75,000 (approximately 1 in 500-1,000) Canadians suffer from this debilitating disease and is three times as likely to occur in women than in men.
There is currently no cure. With your support, you will help researchers continue to learn more about what causes MS and how to prevent it. Researchers with the MS Society of Canada and the MS Scientific Research Foundation investigate many aspects of the disease including risk factors, recovery and repair of the CNS damage caused by MS, and developing treatments for those affected.
